Malaysia My Second Home Programme (“MM2H”)

Malaysia is both politically and economically stable and has lots to offer with its perfect combination of comforts and indulgences : great weather, amazing food, warm people, high standards of living but cheap cost of living, state-of-the-art infrastructure, rich multi-culture and the list goes on and on.  Many have come to Malaysia and fallen in love with it, coming back repeatedly or even making plans to retire here.  In this essence, the Malaysian Government has set up a programme to make it easier for expatriates to retire here via the “Malaysia My Second Home Programme” (“MM2H”).

MM2H is open to all foreign citizens wishing to retire or reside in Malaysia on a long term basis. It is fully endorsed by the Government of Malaysia and your immediate family [dependants and one (1) maid] can also participate in the programme.  Terms and conditions of the programme are appended below :

  1. Eligibility

  2. Open to all foreign citizens except Israel, Montenegro & Yugoslavia.

  3. Age, financial requirements and withdrawal conditions


    Applicants aged below 50 years old
    Applicants aged 50 years and above

    Financial Requirements

    • Fixed Deposit placement of RM300,000
    • Proof of income
    • Proof of savings / assets
    • Government pension over RM10,000
    • OR

    • Fixed Deposit placement of RM150,000
    • Proof of income
    • Proof of savings / assets
    Withdrawal Conditions
    • After one (1) year, the participant can withdraw up to RM240,000 for the purchase of property, payment of school bills and payment of medical bills.
    • Participant must maintain a minimum balance of RM60,000 from the 2nd year onwards and throughout the stay in Malaysia under this programme
    • After one (1) year, the participant can withdraw up to RM90,000 for the purchase of property, payment of school bills and payment of medical bills.
    • Participant must maintain a minimum balance of RM60,000 from 2nd year onwards and throughout the stay in Malaysia under this programme

    Note: Successful applicants are allowed to choose whether to place their fixed deposits in US $ (“USD”) or Malaysia Ringgit (“MYR”). Once the fixed deposit account is opened in USD, it must be maintained in that currency throughout the stay in Malaysia.

  4. Insurance coverage and medical report

  5. A valid Medical Insurance Policy together with a recognised Medical Report is required.

  6. Sponsors / Assistance

  7. There is no requirement for a Malaysian sponsor. If you need assistance in making the application, we can assist with the application.

  8. Agents fee : Up to RM10,000 for assistance

  9. Visa Fee : RM 90.00 per year is charged for issuance of Social Visit Pass.

  10. Incentives
    a) House Purchase
    Participants under MM2H are allowed to purchase two units of residential property valued over RM150,000
    b)

    Car Purchase

    • Choice of either importing one (1) car from country of origin, subject to Approved Permit and exempted from payment of Import & Excise Duty and Sales Tax (within 6 months from the endorsement of MM2H pass)
    • OR

    • Purchase one (1) locally made car, exempted from payment of excise duty & sales tax (within 1 year from the endorsement date of MM2H pass)
  11. Education
    Applicants are allowed to bring along their dependants, either not schooling or are schooling in primary, secondary or in any institution of higher learning. However, dependants who are schooling are required to apply for a Student Pass to continue their education in schools or colleges recognised by the Government.

  12. Taxes
    Successful applicants are bound by the policies, systems and regulations of taxes of this country. However, their overseas income will not be taxed in Malaysia.

  13. Security Vetting
    Approvals are given subject to security vetting clearance conducted by the Royal Malaysian Police.

  14. Restrictions
    Successful applicants are strictly forbidden from the following :
    • Being employed anywhere in Malaysia, unless approved by the Government
    • Participating in activities that can be considered as sensitive to the local people like politics or missionary activities
